Legal
Last updated July 10, 2026.
UrbanLens is built and run by one person, not a company with a legal department - please be reasonable. Don't use the site to plan or advocate anything illegal, like trespassing. Safety Check-In and every other safety tool here are best-effort: they're built to help, but nothing on this site is a guarantee that anyone will see an alert, respond in time, or that help will arrive. What you do with the information you find or share here is your decision and your responsibility. Read the full terms below for the details.
By creating an account or otherwise using UrbanLens ("the site", "we", "us"), you agree to these Terms of Service and to our Values, which describe the principles the site is built around. If you don't agree, please don't use the site.
You must be at least 18 years old, or the age of majority where you live, to create an account. You're responsible for making sure your use of the site complies with the laws that apply to you, wherever you're located.
You're responsible for the security of your account and everything that happens under it. Keep your credentials to yourself, and let us know if you think your account has been compromised. We reserve the right to suspend or remove accounts that violate these terms.
UrbanLens exists to help you document and research places responsibly - not to encourage anyone to break the law. For legal reasons, we do not condone, encourage, or advocate trespassing or any other illegal activity, and nothing on this site should be read as instructions or authorization to do so. Entering private, restricted, or condemned property without permission is illegal in most places and carries real risk to your safety; any decision to do so is yours alone, made with your own judgment about the law and the risk involved.
In addition, you agree not to use the site to harass, endanger, or dox other people or property owners; upload content you don't have the right to share; interfere with the site's operation (scraping, abuse of rate limits, attempting to bypass access controls); or use the site for anything illegal.
You keep ownership of the pins, notes, photos, wiki edits, and comments you create. By posting content, you grant us the license we need to store it and show it back to you and to whoever you've chosen to share it with, per your privacy settings. You're responsible for the accuracy and legality of what you post. We don't sell your data or your content to anyone.
Safety Check-In and any related notification, escalation, or contact-alert features are provided as a convenience, on a best-effort basis. They are not a monitored emergency service, and we cannot guarantee that a check-in will be seen, that an overdue alert will reach anyone, or that help will arrive in time. These tools do not replace calling local emergency services, and you should not rely on them as your only safety plan.
UrbanLens is a privacy-focused site, and moderation is impossible. No user, including the site owner, can see or review any content that isn't explicitly shared with them. Please be kind to one another.
If we become aware of content that violates these terms, including bullying and harrassment of anyone, we will remove those users from the platform. This is an inclusive community that welcomes everyone, and we expect everyone to participate in fostering that environment for others.
UrbanLens is provided "as is," without warranties of any kind. Location data, wiki content, hazard notes, and vulnerability ratings are contributed by users and external sources - we don't independently verify them, and we don't guarantee they're accurate, current, or complete. Use your own judgment before relying on anything you read here.
UrbanLens is built and maintained by one person, as a hobby project. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any injury, loss, property damage, legal consequence, or other harm arising from your use of the site, your reliance on content posted here, or your decision to visit any location referenced on it. That includes harm resulting from trespassing, structural hazards, or any other risk you choose to take on when you visit a real-world place. Please don't sue us - we're doing our best, with the resources of one developer, not a company.
You can delete your account at any time from Settings. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, misuse the site, or put other users at risk.
We may update these terms as the site grows. Material changes will be reflected here with an updated "last updated" date. Continuing to use UrbanLens after a change means you accept the updated terms.
